Mark Cubans Online Pharmacy Expands To All 50 States...
Mark Cuban's Cost Plus Drugs has officially expanded its low-cost prescription service to all 50 U.S. states as of Monday, marking a major milestone in the billionaire's effort to disrupt pharmaceutical pricing. The Dallas-based online pharmacy, launched in 2022, now delivers generic medications nationwide at prices often 90% lower than traditional pharmacies.
The expansion comes amid growing frustration with prescription drug costs, which have risen 35% over the past decade according to AARP data. Cost Plus Drugs operates on a transparent pricing model, charging a flat 15% markup plus pharmacy fees, contrasting sharply with industry practices that often involve complex rebate systems.
"This isn't charity - it's capitalism done right," Cuban tweeted Tuesday morning. The entrepreneur has positioned the venture as both a business opportunity and social mission, partnering with manufacturers to bypass middlemen. The pharmacy currently offers over 1,000 generic medications for conditions ranging from diabetes to depression.
Patient advocacy groups have praised the move. "For Americans choosing between groceries and medications, this could be life-changing," said Lisa Gill of Consumer Reports. Early data shows the service has saved customers an average of $1,000 annually on common prescriptions like insulin and blood pressure medications.
The expansion faces challenges from established pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), who control 80% of the U.S. prescription market. Major insurers have been slow to include Cost Plus Drugs in their networks, forcing most customers to pay out-of-pocket despite the savings.
Healthcare analysts note the timing coincides with Medicare price negotiations for 10 high-cost drugs under the Inflation Reduction Act. "Cuban's model shows what's possible when you remove the perverse incentives," said Dr. Aaron Kesselheim of Harvard Medical School. The pharmacy plans to add more medications and manufacturer partnerships throughout 2026.
Customers can access the service through costplusdrugs.com, with most orders arriving within 3-5 business days. The company says it processes over 500,000 prescriptions monthly and expects that number to double with nationwide availability.
