Blue Alert Issued In Memphis After Officer Shot, Suspect At Large...

A statewide Blue Alert was activated in Tennessee early Saturday after a Memphis police officer was critically wounded in an overnight shooting. Authorities are searching for the armed suspect, identified as 32-year-old Marcus Dewayne Reed, who fled the scene in a stolen vehicle.

The shooting occurred around 1:30 a.m. near the 3400 block of Austin Peay Highway in northern Memphis. The wounded officer, a 12-year veteran of the Memphis Police Department, underwent emergency surgery and remains in critical condition at Regional One Health.

Governor Bill Lee confirmed the Blue Alert activation at 4:15 a.m., urging residents across West Tennessee to report any sightings of Reed. The suspect is considered armed and dangerous, last seen driving a stolen white 2020 Ford F-150 with Tennessee license plate 3G2-8T9.

Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn "C.J." Davis held an emotional press conference at dawn, calling the attack "a cowardly act against a public servant." The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has joined the manhunt, with road checkpoints established along major highways.

This incident marks the third Blue Alert issued in Tennessee this year and comes amid heightened tensions following recent officer-involved shootings nationwide. Social media platforms are flooded with #MemphisStrong posts as the community rallies behind law enforcement.

Local schools have implemented shelter-in-place protocols as a precaution. Businesses near the crime scene remain closed while forensic teams process evidence. Anyone with information is urged to call 1-800-TBI-FIND.

The Blue Alert system, similar to an Amber Alert for missing children, notifies the public about violent suspects who have injured or killed law enforcement officers. Tennessee adopted the program in 2011 following the murder of a Dickson County sheriff's deputy.
