Ayanna Patterson Transfers To Kentucky Womens Basketball...
Former UConn standout Ayanna Patterson has committed to the University of Kentucky, marking a major addition for the Wildcats' women's basketball program. The 6'2" forward announced her decision on social media Thursday, ending weeks of speculation about her next destination after entering the transfer portal in March.
Patterson, a former McDonald's All-American, spent two seasons at UConn but saw limited playing time due to injuries and a deep Huskies roster. Her transfer to Kentucky reunites her with new head coach Kenny Brooks, who previously recruited her while at Virginia Tech. Brooks called Patterson "a game-changer" in a statement Friday.
The move comes at a critical time for Kentucky's program, which is rebuilding under Brooks after a disappointing 12-19 season. Patterson's arrival gives the Wildcats an immediate boost in talent and experience as they prepare for SEC competition. She averaged 2.6 points and 2.3 rebounds in 9.5 minutes per game last season at UConn.
Kentucky fans have reacted enthusiastically to the news, with Patterson's announcement tweet garnering over 5,000 likes in its first 24 hours. The transfer is trending nationally as women's college basketball continues gaining popularity following record-breaking NCAA Tournament viewership in March.
Patterson will have two years of eligibility remaining. Her decision follows a wave of high-profile transfers in women's basketball, including several other former UConn players. Kentucky opens its 2026-27 season November 10 against in-state rival Louisville.
